Meat-based ready meals in attractive skin packaging

Philadelphia-based Vincent Giordano Corporation, processor of deli-quality roast beef, corned beef, pastrami products and Italian specialty products, was looking for a reliable, well-built packaging machine to meet its needs for a new line of ready-to-heat-and-serve refrigerated entrées. After extensive research, the company chose the high-speed A5 traysealer with TraySkin® application from SEALPAC, because this system satisfied the new products’ packaging needs and capacity requirements. “After reviewing other systems, we were confident it was the best choice for us in regard to construction design, reliability plus ease of repairs and maintenance,” says Guy Giordano, CEO of Vincent Giordano Corp.

When asked what benefits and features he likes best about this equipment, Giordano says it is easy to operate and maintain. It features a micro-processer that allows flexibility in use of the machine capabilities. It also has a sanitary design that prevents cleaning issues plus improves the food safety of the products it processes. “By using the SEALPAC TraySkin® system and partnering it with our high-pressure pasteurization [HPP] process, we are able to offer a unique product to our customers,” he continues. “The end result is easy-to-serve, fresh, refrigerated meals that have an extended shelf-life [60 to 90 days from pack date] and the highest level of food safety available in the marketplace.”

A unique solution

SEALPAC’s A5 high-speed traysealer with TraySkin® packaging system has a high-transparent, barrier-skin film that fits the contours of each meat and poultry product like a second skin, thus, preventing drip loss. It preserves the colour, flavour, integrity and tenderness of the product. Marinated products are held in place for an outstanding product presentation. To accommodate extra product components, such as vegetables, seasonings, in-pack promotions or recipe tips, processors have the option to double-seal. After skinning the product, the tray is hermetically sealed with SEALPAC’s InsideCut sealing, which creates head room that can be individually used for any optional extras.

Other benefits of the SEALPAC TraySkin® high-speed, tray-sealer packaging system include extended shelf life; better curing of fresh red meat cuts; efficient stacking is accomplished during transport and at point of sale; a highly appealing product presentation; and it ensures trouble-free labeling. This packaging concept is also very suitable for beef cuts, which will benefit from maturation during storage processes, SEALPAC relays.

Equally important, Giordano is happy with the servicing of his new packaging system. “The service team from SEALPAC quickly addressed any start-up issues we had.” he says. “They also have been very responsive to our calls and have helped us maximize the capabilities of the machine as we move forward and continue to develop our product line with different offerings. I would have no problem recommending the SEALPAC system to any potential purchaser.”
