How does TraySkin® work

By using the TraySkin® system, various products can be hermetically sealed inside the tray to achieve a significantly longer shelf life. A highly transparent barrier skin film fits the contours of the product like a second skin, hence preventing drip loss and keeping the product in place for an outstanding retail presentation. Furthermore, especially in case of marinated products, the colour, flavour and tenderness of the product is maintained.

A multitude of possibilities

TraySkin® is also available on our Amax-series for applications with significant protrusion, up to 90 mm above the tray edge. The skin film, perfectly matched to the contents of the tray, guarantees optimal freshness throughout the entire distribution chain, right up to the consumer’s refrigerator. Be it for meat or poultry, de-boned or bone-in, seafood or snacks, or even ready meals with multiple components – TraySkin® can be applied to a wide range of fresh and frozen foods. For extras, such as seasonings or in-pack promotions, there is the option of an additional top film. This creates an additional head space and simplifies labeling and stacking.

FAQ zu TraySkin®

  • What are the key benefits of TraySkin® packaging?

By using TraySkin®, various products can be hermetically sealed inside the tray to achieve a significantly longer shelf life. A highly transparent barrier skin film fits the contours of the product like a second skin, hence preventing drip loss and keeping the product in place for an outstanding retail presentation. Furthermore, especially in case of marinated products, the colour, flavour and tenderness of the product is maintained.

  • Which products are ideal for this concept?

The TraySkin® system is suitable for a wide range of food products, be it meat or poultry, de-boned or bone-in, seafood or snacks, or even ready meals with multiple components.

  • How does it improve presentation at retail?

A highly transparent barrier skin film fits the contours of the product like a second skin, therefore creating an appealing 3D effect. As the product is securely fixated, TraySkin® allows for vertical presentation at eye level. Optionally, an additional top film can be sealed for seasonings or in-pack promotions. This not only creates an additional head space, but also simplifies labelling and stacking.

  • Does it reduce food waste?

The TraySkin® concept uses less materials compared to traditional tray-sealing with MAP trays, especially if low skin trays are used with a protruding product.

  • What are the sealing and material requirements?

TraySkin® runs on a standard SEALPAC traysealer. Due to deep vacuum that needs to be achieved, speeds are slightly lower than for modified atmosphere packaging, but high outputs can still be achieved. The TraySkin® concept requires a matching tray and skin film. Here, the options are endless, including the more demanding mono-materials that increase recyclability.
