StretchMap: sustainable alternative to stretch-wrapping

StretchMap provides a sustainable alternative to common stretch-wrapping. By applying a shrinkable lidding film tightly over the product, which lies slightly above the tray edge, the fresh product is hermetically sealed under modified atmosphere. This fully automated process prevents any leaks.

How does StretchMap work

The name StretchMap indicates that, similar to traditional stretch-wrapping, we are applying a shrinkable film with stretch properties, yet in a fully automated manner that guarantees a hermetic seal under modified atmosphere. As such, your fresh products have an optimal shelf life and are carefully protected. The tight-fitting film allows for vertical presentation of the tray at retail and reduces drip loss.

Improved recycling

For the sealing process, a traditional MAP tool is used, but with an isolated dome. This allows variable product heights, but with up to 20 mm product protrusion in the middle of the pack. The system can be applied for both foam and plastic trays. By moving to mono plastic trays, significant improvements in recycling can be made. Especially compared to the traditional foam trays with overwrap.

FAQ sobre StretchMap

  • How does StretchMap differ from standard MAP?

By applying a shrinkable lidding film tightly over the product, which lies slightly above the tray edge, the fresh product is hermetically sealed under modified atmosphere with minimal head space.

  • What are the sustainability advantages?

Compared to standard MAP, the tray for StretchMap can be lower, meaning less plastics and a lower weight.

  • Which products are most suitable?

Primarily, the StretchMap concept provides a traditional (hand-wrapped) look for fresh meat and poultry products, but it can, for example, also be used for whole mushrooms.

  • Does it reduce material usage?

StretchMap requires a relatively low tray and a thin, shrinkable film. By moving to mono-plastic trays, further improvements in recycling can be made, especially compared to the traditional foam trays with overwrap.

  • How does it impact packaging speed?

The StretchMap concept runs on any standard SEALPAC traysealer with all the known benefits in terms of seal integrity, output, and flexibility. Compared to traditional over-wrapping, the fully automated StretchMap process increases output considerably, and with much less leakers.
