A true revolution in the modern kitchen; cresses could until recently only be found fully unprotected on the supermarket shelves, but now a new packaging development has created optimal hygienic circumstances and ultimate protection for aromatic kitchen cresses. SEALPAC, in close cooperation with Dutch company Koppert Cress, was able to develop a sealed tray, which operates as a greenhouse. Koppert Cress offers, amongst other things, kitchen cresses, edible sprouts and mini vegetables, which are also widely used by renowned restaurants and professional chefs.
Sealing with air circulation
The cresses are placed in the new top seal packaging in germinated condition when they are approximately 5 centimetres high. The edge of the tray has been equipped with special openings, which ensure optimal air circulation after sealing the top film with the SEALPAC SP350 traysealer. This enables the product to grow fully protected in the packaging, just like in a greenhouse.
The packaging gets its extra appeal from the InsideCut sealing, a SEALPAC innovation. Owing to its excellent easy opening and printing characteristics, the top film with peel tab provides plenty of marketing opportunities. Koppert Cress uses the lidding film for example to print recepies and tips on product usage. By using a special colour system for each type of cress, the products are ideally suited for usage in gastronomy kitchens.
Easy logistics, prolonged shelf life
Owing to its innovative packaging design, which exactly fits the worldwide standards of the catering industry, each individual pack can easily be stacked. This makes for easy storage, but also for optimal presentation at point of sales. With a climate especially adapted to the product in the pack, the shelf life of the cresses can be prolonged up to 10 days. With this case-ready greenhouse concept, cresses are now guaranteed to arrive safely and garden fresh on the table.
